The best way to get to know us is at the Tuesday evening ‘Club Nights’ – click on ‘Club Nights’ for more info.
In the first instance, just come along and see if you like the game, have a few sessions with us and decide if it’s for you. Then arrangements can be made for you to become a member.
Members of the Bowls Club must be members of the main club, now known as Bushey Sports Club but still known to many as the Metropolitan Police Bushey Sports Club. You will have to be proposed and seconded by full members of the Club and the annual fee for is £40. The fee is still £40 for couples who join. This is a concessionary membership fee for those who join and support the Bowls Club – the normal fee is £100 per person per year! You will then be entitled to the full range of membership benefits and use of the main club. You will also pay a fee – currently £15 a year - to be a member of the Bowls Club. When you play in matches and represent the Club, there is a small match fee.
We are pleased that we are able to offer facilities to disabled bowlers. We have adequate and sturdy steps to get on to the green, invaluable for those who can’t see too well and for those who need to use a walking aid. We also have a ‘bowls buggy’, a purpose built wheelchair for use on the green – and large removable ramps to facilitate getting on to and off the playing surface. Not unnaturally, we ask that any bowler who needs to use any aid for the disabled brings along a helper – to push the buggy if nothing else! Our Club Coach will be more than pleased to help new bowlers to use the equipment and both the Club Coach and coaches called in from across Hertfordshire can help with the techniques of bowling from the buggy.
So there you have it – the bowl is in your court! Do come along and try us – we’re a very friendly bunch!
