Congratulations to all concerned in a memorable win the Watford & District Friday Evening League.
Kitcheners BC have won the cup for the last three years. Tonight it was our turn to wrest it from them.
Mick Dix, Stuart Stamp and Paul Stamp romped to a 21-6 victory, winning 12 of the 18 ends, conceding never more than a single and boosted by a 6 on the 11th end.
With Paul's rink finished, the other rink of Malcolm Mackriell, Tony Barr and Peter McNulty had got off to a shaky start and were 3-10 down at 6 ends. At 13 ends they went ahead 15-14. No more shots were to be scored by us and Kitcheners crept up to a 10 shot lead going into the last end. It was 'keep a five of your card' time.
A trip to Specsavers wasn't necessary when our triple judged that they were only 4 down and the last wood didn't have to be bowled.
Our multitude of spectators were on the edges of their seats as the umpire came on to measure. 4 down confirmed - and we had won the match 36-35.
Well done to players, reserves, the on- the-day team manager and the spectators - all of whom contributed to our success.'
